Lough Key Forest Park, the only area of Boyle, Co. Roscommon that seems to be thriving. Why is this? L.K.F.P is serviced by the River Shannon, which attracts a large number of visitors annually. Shannon Cruisers have to pass through this area when navigating the river, so visitors tend to stop to have a break etc. The area has it's own marina, and has numerous amenities and activities for people to do. We want to apply this adventurous formula to Boyle town.
A poster that caught our eye in Boyle town. The residents embrace the Moone Boy program on television. Also the tagline says "Bringing Colour To Our Community." This is what we intend to do as part of our project. Our project is titled "Different Strokes For Different Folks" meaning that we will cater for people of all ages and interests. Buildings and areas around town are colour coordinated to represent the related activity involved. For example people interested in the nightlife, like pubs, clubs and restaurants; could "paint the town red" by simply visiting all the buildings/areas painted red. Below is an example of the town buildings painted in their corresponding colours. This adds a new lease of life to the town by making it visually striking, interesting, and injecting freshness back into Boyle.
We know people are coming to visit Lough Key Forest Park, so how can we get them into Boyle town? How about a cable car? As energy efficiency is a major factor as of late, we want to keep all our ideas/projects as green and self sufficient as possible. Our cable cars would operate on a tandem bike system, meaning people would cycle a system that would transport them into Boyle. We would also add the option for older or not so adventurous people to pay for a meter based system to activate an electric motor for transportation. This would encourage people to be aware of their carbon footprint too.
Here are some of the projects that we would love to construct in Boyle that we feel would attract a lot of people to the town. How about seeing town from a completely different perspective all together?
How about an ariel walkway? The public can sight see from a bridge that circles the town from above. Different colour coded areas would cater for the more adventurous, with ziplines, climbing etc.
How about spending some time in the treetops? People can have the option again of climbing, ziplining into the treetops to explore a new world, while everyone else can take the lift to relax in a cafe or restaurant while taking in the beautiful scenery below.
Activities would dot Boyle town for the more adventurous at heart ranging from bungee jumps and zorbing to more tame activities like canoeing and fishing, to nature walks and guided tours.
Since Boyle has a some what extra terrestrial past, we figured we could cater for that too. How about dining out in a flying saucer? Our UFO restaurant is suspended above the river and made from mostly glass allowing for customer again to take in the sights and a unique experience. Again as we cater for everyone, the restaurant would have alternative entrances and exits depending on your preference, for example a lift, or zipline, to rope ladder.
Above is a map of Boyle town with the proposed areas for the initial projects to be housed. With increased visits and tourism, the revenue created would go towards further projects and development. Initially the project would need funding to get it up and running, but we believe that after the initial stage the project would self fund future projects.
Above is a list of activities and projects that we thought of during the brainstorming stage. Time constraints didn't allow us to incorporate all of this into our project. But we felt these items could be added to Boyle at a later stage and were something to think about to attract visitors.
